From stage to screen: king hedley II
I wanted to honor the legendary play by creating a visual image that felt raw, poignant, and visceral.
To accomplish this, we shot in 3 different formats, digital, super 8, and polaroid film.
Digital is used in this film to have the ability to capture each moment Nic Sims provided without the risk of missing anything. Super 8 was meant to give a pop to the visuals, often cutting away to this format to emphasize a powerful moment and bring overall acknowledgment to the play's setting, Pittsburg 1985. Last, polaroids were taken and stitched together, creating a stop-motion animation, to shed light on the character of Pernell, who is never actually seen on stage during the stage play.
